Submission Guidelines
In general, we are looking for fresh and exciting writing about issues that relate to the Jewish community today, and we want pieces that explore these issues with depth and clarity. Please take note of the following requirements for essays and fiction. Separate requirements for poetry and features are listed below.
Unfortunately we cannot pay contributors at this time, but we definitely hope to be able to do so in the future. We like to think of this as a terrific opportunity to become part of a broader conversation about the things that matter most in the Jewish community today.
Please do not send anything racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic or obscene.
Send all other submissions to the Editor at:
editor@newvilnareview.comFiction and Essay- Please do not submit more than one story at a time, our editors are all quite busy, so send us your best story, and please be patient while we give your piece the consideration it deserves.
- All submissions should be sent electronically, in the BODY of the email (NO ATTACHMENTS, please). If we decide to use your piece we may ask you to resend it as a Word file, but initially all submissions should be sent as text within the body of an email.
- We will do our best to respond to all submissions within three to four months.
- Essays should be between 1,500 and 3,000 words in length. Fiction should not exceed 5,000 words in length.
- Please include a cover note in your email with all of your contact information, including email and postal address.
FeaturesIf you have an idea for a feature story or would like the opportunity to write an assigned feature for us, please send three published clips along with a cover email with all of your contact information and a brief outline stating the story idea your are proposing. If you have a general interest in feature writing please email us and let us know what kind of stories you might be interested in doing.
PoetryPlease send three to five of your best poems in the body of an email.
OtherIf you have an idea for something that does not fit neatly into one of the above categories please feel free to send us an email. We will consider proposals for interviews, photo essays, and other types of content on a case by case basis.
