Hushed Thoughts

-Elvis Alves

April 22, 2011

Bewildered to be alive

to be me

a thing of the dust

to rise again and again.

Perpetually surrounded by

symbols of life like

breath, air, a simple flower bed.

Confused but unable to

refuse that the day may

get better with the coming

of tomorrow,

a new day to awake

to possibilities;

to sing a new, sweet

melody of praise

simply because it is

what needs to be done.

Standing beneath and

above hope, bewildered

yet standing indeed,

waiting for and creating a

state of mind contrary to

what is felt at the moment,

begging to let go of thoughts

not conducive to what

ought to be.

Eventually freedom swells

like rice in a pot of

hot water, becoming

bigger and stronger,

nutrients added to life

bringing back thoughts

of better days into a

mind once bewildered now

invaded by light.
