The sages of consciousness
Tape their dreams on my head
And headache pain rumbles out
And tests the migraine
The day dreams of testing thoughts
Make a wonderful noise for all
But the pain of discrimination
Shelters itself in raw
Meaningless temperamental shards
Making life sit up in a stroke
And fall upon its heart
So I sing to you with words
That nobody else even knows
And I just strain to hear your voice
While I am picking at my toes
G. David Schwartz is the former president of Seedhouse, the online interfaith committee and the author of A Jewish Appraisal of Dialogue. Currently a volunteer at Drake Hospital in Cincinnati, Schwartz continues to write. His new book, Midrash and Working Out of the Book is now in stores.
